Children with disabilities in Uganda face many challenges and are amongst the most underprivileged members in society. It is estimated that one in every ten Ugandan children has a physical or mental disability. And disability has a significant number in the country with a large percentage of the population below the poverty line.
Facing stigma, superstition and poverty, CWDs and their families often lack access to treatment, rehabilitation and other vital services. Children with disabilities face many barriers to the realization of rights such as education, health care and a childhood free from abuse.
At KCH we believe it is our role to provide important rehabilitation services, to educate communities about the implications of childhood disability and to empower CWDs and their families to lead fulfilled lives.
