Education and literacy

KCH recognizes that education is vital to transformation of any community and that quality education is every child’s right. Inclusive education creates a platform for the needs of children with disabilities to be identified and addressed.

KCH supports children with disabilities to access inclusive education through a catch up class run for children undergoing intensive rehabilitation, which allows children with disabilities to keep up to date with their studies while undergoing rehabilitation.

KCH also supports CWD education through the Early Learning Centre, where children with mental disabilities learn are cared for in a stimulating environment. They learn life skills such as washing, toileting and playing to allow them to live more independent and fulfilled lives.

KCH also supports children with disabilities in mainstream schools, and with the support of the Liliane Foundation is able to assist underprivileged CWDs with school fees.

Parents and caregivers are also taught how to write and read to enable them to manage their own businesses. With the support of Barclays Bank of Uganda, they are also taught computer skills.
