Community outreaches

KCH regularly sends health workers to rural areas to perform community outreach clinics. Community outreaches enable KCH to implement and promote more inclusive systems of health and rehabilitative care. Through these outreaches, children in the community benefit from assessment and screening, on-the-spot rehabilitative care, measurement and fitting for assistive devices.

As a means of ensuring a comprehensive service, the outreach program is executed by a professional multi-skilled team comprising of physiotherapists, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers and orthopaedic technologists. During the community outreaches, children are assessed and provided with on spot therapy or referred to nearby health centres. The team collaborates with the medical personnel in the communities for continuity purposes.

Those with complicated conditions are referred to KCH for intensive rehabilitation, medical care and specialized services including surgeries. These outreaches would not be possible without the support of HealthyWorld Foundation and International Federation for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (IF).
